Johnny's Bracelet

Unread post by ThirdArm » Tue Dec 13, 2005 5:09 pm

My local paper had this piece this morning:

Santa Cruz Sentinel, December 13, 2005

Looking for a Christmas present that not only helps an important cause, but could be the next big thing?

Then you ought to visit the website for Children's Hospice, a grassroots organization that started right in our county and works to provide compassionate, all-encompassing end-of-life care for children.

The organization, founded by Lori Butterworth and Devon Dabbs, needed a way to help raise funds for this important need, so it enlisted Soquel jewelry designer Jennifer Scarborough of Zia Jewelry.

Jennifer created beautiful silver, and silver and braided leather bracelets that carry messages inspired by two children who died. "Only love," says the bracelet inspired by baby Alexis and "Today is a gift - have fun," inspired by 11 year-old Dustin.

.....Actress Melissa Gilbert regularly wears hers, as does Johnny DEPP, who chose the silver and leather "Today is a gift" bracelet for himself.

Johnny was so moved by the bracelet's "profound simplicity," he never takes it off.

You can order your own bracelet - 100% of the money goes to Children's Hospice - by visiting www.childrenshospice.org. Each costs $45.

I was really excited to find a local Johnny 'connection.' And this is so typical of him, kind and loving and doing good. :cloud9:

Thanks, Charlotte, for posting this! What a lovely bracelet and cause. :-) If only I had a credit card! (It's better that I don't though!)
Now...bring me that horizon.

I just wanted to point out to those who might order one of the bracelets. The double braided leather one is a size large. The single leather and the sterling silver bracelet are small (women's).

Thanks for sharing that article with us, Charlotte. I think it's so sweet of Johnny to wear that bracelet for such a good cause. :cloud9:  And it's nice to know what it finally says because I have been trying to figure that out for some time now!

I would love to order it, but I´m afraid it´s a bit too expensive for me. :-/ But maybe next month or in two months. Because it looks like something I would really love to wear and if I can support children with it, I think that´s just great.

I ordered 4 of them. Thanks so much for sharing this info with us. My young Godson is currently undergoing chemo for Medulloblastoma (an agressive brain tumor). Since he is a huge Captain Jack Sparrow fan, I got one for him, one for each of his parents and one for myself. One of the reasons I came out of lurkdom on this board (having been a huge JD fan for years) was because he had been diagnosed and I was desparate for information on how to get an autographed picture for him to cheer him up. This bracelet is super cool. He'll love it! Thanks again.

Wow.
I'm sorry to hear about your godson's condition. I wish him the best of health.

I'm thinking of ordering one of these. They seem so simply, but so... meaningful.
My uncle and my grandfather are sick right now, so I'd really like to wear one of these wonderful bracelets for them, to acknowlegde that each day with them is a gift to me.

I'm so very sorry to hear this news about your Godson depprespect and I will pray for him. I love to pray for people. I hope your Godson was able to get an autographed photo. Even better, I wish :capnjack: could visit your young Godson. What a wonderful blessing that would be!

Charlotte, thank you for finding this info on Johnny's bracelet. It's very typical of him to wear this sort of bracelet as he treasures each breath he takes. I'm so proud of Johnny. He has such a kind heart. He supports many worthy causes.
