A Birthday Project update for 2014
Earlier this month, I received this update letter from Ryan Wycliffe, CEO and Co-founder of Project Pueblo, the charity we supported in 2012 and 2013. I wanted not only to share Ryan's update on Project Pueblo's work the past year, but I also thought it might be nice to remind the Zoners of a very worthwhile group to donate to.
Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to have an organized Birthday Project this year, but why not consider sending a donation directly to Project Pueblo in honor of Johnny's upcoming birthday? We know every cent we give goes directly to help those in great need.
Thank you!

Dear Theresa,
Hi! I hope you are doing well! I wanted to send you an update to you and the JD Zone for our projects over the last several months. Thanks to your help and the generous donations from the Johnny Depp Zone and Johnny Depp, we have been able to complete several projects in March 2014. We had a volunteer group from California come for a week that retrofitted our water systems to improve them by replacing the piping so they were better equipped to handle the low temperatures in the winter. Also, we installed 5 gas-powered water pumps. In the past, families would have to manually use buckets to transfer water to the water systems. The pumps allow families to simply use a hose to do this, and it saves a lot of time and effort, especially since many of families are elderly. Also, this volunteer group installed tile flooring for the Begay family, which was very beneficial for them.
Also, my wife and I lead a team of medical and dental students over March 28-30 to complete Thomasina Nez’s hogan. We finished painting the interior of the hogan, and laid down tile for her hogan as well. This was the final project for the hogan, and we are so happy that we have completed it! We also planted a garden for Thomasina and her family, and we planted 4 fruit trees for her as well. Lastly, we worked at Larry Gordy’s house and repaired a roof for his hogan. Our volunteers there tore off the existing roof, and we were able to provide lumber for a new roof. I have attached some pictures from these trips as well.
Over the last several years, volunteers from Project Pueblo have been able to build a hogan for Thomasina and her family, install several water systems for families that truly needed them, and improve housing and living conditions for several families that have lived in the one of the poorest regions of the Navajo Nation. We would not have been able to do any of this without your help, and the generosity and kindness of the JD Zone and Johnny Depp. Thank you from all of our board members, our volunteers, Forgotten People and other groups we work with, and especially from the families who have been directly impacted by your kindness.
In the future, Project Pueblo will be working on several projects to assist families affected by the Bennett Freeze. We will be installing more water systems for more families, and we are currently working on ways to determine additional families that need the systems the most. We are also working to identify families that are in need of hogans or home repairs, so we can make sure that all families are protected from the elements. We are planning to have additional volunteer groups going to the reservation this summer and next year to install water systems and perform more housing repairs. In addition, since many of our volunteers are going to medical and dental school in Arizona, we are working hard to implement medical and dental projects so we can work to address medical and dental needs in the future. Some options are doing medical clinics and dental clinics over the next few years. We are looking into doing a health education/diabetes prevention workshop, bringing a mobile dental clinic to the area, and working with some physicians to build and work at a more permanent medical clinic in the area. We are confident that these future projects will impact people, and we are so thankful for your support over the years.
Simply put, without your support, we would not have been able to have the resources to improve the living conditions of those who have been affected by the Bennett Freeze. We will never forget your kindness and generosity, and most importantly, neither will the families who have benefitted the most from your kindness. If any of your members would like to continue to donate to Project Pueblo in the future, we guarantee that 100% of the donations will continue to go directly to projects that will help Navajo families get basic needs. However, with the donations that the JD Zone and Mr. Depp have generously provided Project Pueblo over the last several years, we have been able to not only provide basic needs, but we have been able to provide Navajo families with hope. We have been able to let these families know that they have not been forgotten, and that where there is suffering and poverty, it can be met with tangible solutions to improve one’s life by compassionate people such as those in the JD Zone, Mr. Depp, and our volunteers. And as a volunteer, I can assure you that anyone who has worked as a Project Pueblo volunteer has been reminded that we can make a difference, especially when we work together with others. We are so blessed to have been able to partner with you in the past, and we hope to stay in touch in the future!
Please feel free to stay in touch with me and Sean over the years—we would love to continue to update you with our projects.
Blessings to you and the JD Zone!
Sincerely,
Ryan Wycliffe (on behalf of everyone at Project Pueblo)

Re: A Birthday Project update for 2014
I want to thank Ryan Wycliffe for sending us this heartwarming update!
Project Pueblo is certainly a very deserving organization to donate to as we can see from all the wonderful work they do. This would be a nice way to honour Johnny's birthday this year.

A day late, but done with pleasure.
Thank you for sharing their recent project update letter. Learning how our small contributions have bettered lives is, itself, no small thing.
