Johnny Depp ‘chaotic’ movie set claims shot down: ‘He works diligently with great passion’

EXCLUSIVE: Johnny Depp is currently directing his new movie Modì, starring Al Pacino, in Budapest where there have been reports of a chaotic set. However, a set source close to the star has shot down these claims and praised the Pirates of the Caribbean actor for his "passionate hard work" and "kindness to the crew" on the Hungarian production.

Announced last year, Johnny Depp is directing for the first time in 25 years following his debut with Marlon Brando in 1997’s The Brave.

The 60-year-old, who won his US libel case against ex-wife Amber Heard, has been residing in Budapest for the last few weeks prepping and beginning production on his biopic of the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.

The film, called Modì, is set in 1916 Paris and is co-produced by Depp with Al Pacino, who plays Maurice Gangnat in the movie alongside Stephen Graham and Sally Phillips.

Recent reports from Hungary have claimed that filming has been “chaotic” due to the Pirates of the Caribbean star partying too much at the expense of the work.

However, a set source close to Depp himself has exclusively shot down these rumours and more

The insider told Express.co.uk: “Johnny always looks after the cast and crew and treats people with kindness. There were weeks of very long night shoots; 12-14 hours. He works diligently, both on the script and on the very long days, and seems to be very passionate in bringing his visions to life.”

On reports that Depp enjoys the benefits of his celebrity more than the work itself, the source told us: “He has moved on from a massive media assault that would have devastated anyone, but he showed incredible bravery and resilience. I absolutely admire his perseverance. I think it's time for people to get on with their lives.”

On claims that Depp is no longer welcome in luxury hotels, the source said: “A residence offers more privacy than a hotel. He deserves privacy and quiet and needs it after very long working days and nights.”

And on reports that progress on Modì is in many cases due to the talent of the Assistant Director stepping in, which Depp supposedly takes credit for, the insider said: “Johnny has a lot of responsibility as a film director and has to make important decisions. He invests so much passion and energy in the project, and is backed by his professional production team.”

They added: “He is working hard, enjoying life, and deserves to reclaim his narrative as a film director, actor and the brilliant visionary that he is.”

Of pleasing others, at his own expense
