Never Fear Truth website, featuring Johnny
Johnny Depp Launches NFT Collection… and ‘Crashes Discord’
by The Fintech TimesJanuary 26, 2022
Actor Johnny Depp has launched an NFT collection – called Never Fear Truth – on the Ethereum blockchain featuring portraits of his friends, heroes and family. Twenty-five per cent of the sales will be donated to charities.
Depp, who portrayed Captain Jack Sparrow in The Pirates of the Caribbean films, is distributing 11,111 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with 10,000 available for purchase. The remaining 1,111 will be distributed ‘at his discretion’ to ‘those fans who have supported him most’ as well as his team.
According to the Never Fear Truth website, the actor created the project to share his art as well as establish a creative community of fans and friends through ownership on the Ethereum blockchain.
Elizabeth Taylor, Tim Burton, Heath Ledger and Hunter S. Thompson are among those whose portraits have been turned into animated artwork by Depp and ‘energised with his characteristic freehand flourishes’.
Within minutes of launching the collection, Depp’s Never Fear Truth Discord server appeared to crash due to high demand with his official Twitter account for the Collection stating: ‘we knew you would love The Truth, but we didn’t think it would crash the whole of Discord..!!’ with 10,000 members joining within hours. Meanwhile, Discord has reported a ‘widespread API outage’.
The community on Discord has been billed as an ‘intimate environment for Johnny to express his creativity through; and provide access to unique works, experiences and future projects in art, music and film’.
The Never Fear Truth NFTs will be distributed via a raffle conducted up to a maximum of three times before any NFTs not redeemed will be deployed into public sale. All artworks will be generated randomly and revealed after the final sale.
Twenty-five percent of all proceeds from the sales will be donated to charities, including the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation.

Sorry...I had also created a thread (which I am sure will be deleted and understandably so) but I think a lot of people, including myself, are confused. While he named the project Never Fear Truth, "NTF" is actually a crypto token. His new venture Never Fear Truth is involved with NTF and you need to create an account on the Discord site. https://www.coinbase.com/learn/crypto-b ... hat-is-nft.
I'm still trying to figure all this out but all I really know at this point is that he blew up the Discord servers because of all the people trying to set up accounts. I believe you have to create an account and then register with a payment site in order to be able to apply for some kind of raffle and/or purchase the paintings.
IDK...I'm just a humble pirate.

I admit to being a bit disappointed that Johnny is getting into the NFT market, it's quite controversial at the moment. Many artists have already made complaints about theft of their art and people have been duped out of their money. The other thing is damage to the environment due to the energy needed for the many large hard drives needing to stay on 24/7, 365 days a year to store the info connected to these tokens. It is open to fraud on a wide scale, because everything is digitized it's open to theft.

There is a twitter account for this!
Whilst not understanding anything of what is going on and having not had a chance to properly read up - I am just so happy that this once again shows his popularity and the fact that he can operate without Hollywood.
I actually laughed out loud when I saw that one of the beneficiaries will be the CHLA - brilliant two fingers at a certain person who forgot to donate!
Interesting to note the recipients including Great Ormond Street who love JD. Some of their staff turned up to support him in the UK case. Presumably the charities have agreed to accept the donations. I wonder if the AH PR machine will go for them (accepting money from an abuser).
Also lovely that he has included his children - one picture of LRD and one based on a painting Jack did as a child which became a family fictional character. I love that.
Yeah, get ready for a backlash. I'll admit NFTs baffle me, it just seems so utterly pointless and bizarre, and people overall really seem to vilify any celebrity promoting or getting into the NFT world themselves.
I imagine Johnny isn't aware of this and thinks it's a cool idea. After all, Kevin Smith, Tarantino, Bogdanovich himself (his very last film project), etc, are getting into the market too.

A certain Rocket Man has been promoting dogecoin. He did a short press interview and said he was not encouraging people to buy it and that they shouldn't do it just to follow what he does, but a lot of people do. I imagine JD was advised he could potentially make a fortune and at the same time, contribute to charity for a tax write off? IDK but it seems to me he could also lose a lot of money too. The other day it was reported that the currency plummet leaving people to lose a lot of money but the next day it sprung right back up again so who knows. He isn't making the kind of money in films anymore like he did before so maybe it's a way to keep the money train rolling.
Someone on SM said you buy "tokens" and each one is very unique and some could be worth more than others, IDK. I only know I could never afford to do this so I'm not losing sleep over it BUT it would be nice to own one his paintings someday.

There's already scammers using Never Fear Truth to cheat people out of their money. Be careful if you're thinking of venturing into buying anything or taking part, always go to the official website and follow their instructions.

I have never heard of NFT’s, just wanted to comment that I think his art is stunning, they are so characterful and stylish. I’d love to see them in a gallery and just be able to study them.
