Try a search on twitter using McAfee's and Johnny's names. I don't want to quote him but McAfee implied that he didn't think JD was, um, tough enough to portray him. He was more forceful and derogatory about it and posted several tweets.SnoopyDances wrote:I guess he worried that Johnny's press might somehow tarnish McAfee's pristine image.meeps wrote:Why did McAfee object to Johnny playing him ???

Well, he's entitled to his opinion.
I'm more interested in the Barbarian movie anyway.

In a way that is what I might call a backhanded compliment: that McFee in a way says, that our boy is too sweet and gentle to play him
But yes, I am also sure that Johnny could do it! ... is Keaton by the way more forceful? I like him, but don't see him as a Clint Eastwood or John Wayne type either.

And here I thought, that Johnny is supposed to be this drugged out of his head guy - at least according to the tabloids, which still believe AH

Well, isn’t that braggart a classy guy? Yeah, meeps, for sure . . . Guess he missed Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as well as the tabloids.
The link below is related to Johnny’s performance in Black Mass. No drugs involved but certainly some lengthy, reliable comments from the director, Scott Cooper, that would certainly challenge McAfee’s “p_ _ _y” label for anyone not familiar with Johnny’s ability to totally morph into any character he’s taken on.
As I said in another post, I’m glad Johnny pulled out of this commitment, it would have been nothing but trouble. I don’t believe for a second he was “fired”.

When I first read that Johnny was out, I was relieved. He doesn't need to be playing that kind of character at this time, even though he would have been superlative at it. With all of the comments from the "principal," I'm even happier. I think its going to be a thoroughly unpleasant movie.
I'll buy you the hat....a really big one.

I'm glad Johnny has pulled out of this one, he doesn't need all the negativity from McAfee and I'm sure that he'll not miss this role, he would have done justice to it but McAfee is a big enough braggart as it is, no need to feed into his ego.

I don't know what kind of relationship, if any, Johnny and Michael Keaton may have (2 guys that have figured so much into Tim Burton's filmography- have they ever met?), but if I was in Keaton's shoes, I think I'd pass on this on Johnny's behalf. I don't know what exactly McAfee's idea of a "tough guy" is, but I do know both Depp and Keaton are capable of being plenty intimidating/frighteningly unpredictable when a role calls for it. But if it's supposed to be a comedy, hopefully it and Keaton will lampoon McAfee in the deserved way?

I give McAfee a thumbs down for saying that he got got Johnny fired. Even if it were true it was an unnecessary thing to say.
