Yes onto positive things. Have got the DVD on pre-order, and will watch anywhere I can - amazing reviews, 83% on rotten tomatoes. His vision has clearly been so important to this project - I WANT TO SEE THE KEITH RICHARDS DOCUMENTARY!

I have tried 4 or 5 times to link to a forbes article, and each time it says, '404 Not Found'!

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
Not a bad article. Short and to the point
Neither of the two actors have proved hugely popular in their respective roles - indeed, many film buffs viewed the recasting of Grindelwald to Mads Mikkelsen as an upgrade, while Heard’s wooden performance in Aquaman wasn’t particularly well-received.
But this culture war isn’t about either of these blockbusters; it’s about how the entertainment industry, and the public, respond to domestic abuse accusations, and how gender shapes assumptions.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
I suppose it is something that it is even being reported in Forbes but "not hugely popular" - sorry did you see the reaction to his sacking?
Even so - if you google news AH it is nothing but the petition; if you google news JD it's the petition, Dior standing by him and sales sky rocketing, the petition and JD touted to play Gomez.
I'll take it.

What’s best for Johnny and what’s best for the film may not be equal. The right decision may not be what’s fair. It’s not simple. I love Johnny and want him to be the best he can be. I selfishly want him at his best if I ever get to work with him again. It’s not my decision. If it was I’d bend over backwards to shoot around him and HOPE production doesn’t come to a screeching halt amidst lock down rules which are already precarious, and pray that we get a decent performance amidst all the stress. That’s a huge gamble some are not willing to take with so much on the line, guilty or innocent- and add on no guarantees and the film needs to be a hit... there’s too many moving parts. Any decision will garner losses... damned if you do...it’s messy.
I’m by no means an expert in this case obviously but I felt a need to say something since fans were needing some explanation. I felt silence was even worse. I’m human. Do I wish WB had handled this better and informed the cast and gave us proper talking points when asked...? Yup. It’s a big reason why we’re here chatting. And When I say ‘Johnny is a magnificent comet with a messy debris field’ it’s my observation of exactly what I’ve witnessed over the years. I’d say the same about Jack Nicholson or any of the awesome bad boys of entertainment that we love so much, it’s why we love them. It’s Rock& roll. I can’t speak for WB & why they finally decided to let him go. I can only assume all the darkness & chaos swirling around this case finally became a possible liability in their minds & perhaps they felt the stress had taken a toll physically and mentally on JD. s**t it’s hard for me to concentrate on my own work while trying to deal with this issue with you all, I can only imagine how tough it is for Johnny right now.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
The Forbes article was interesting for not being negative. Or at least being equally negative. And while MSM don't report on the tapes, they are starting to report on the petition, and this inevitably leads to people listening to her abuse from her own mouth. After that it's all downhill for Amber imo.
I also think a very positive thing about the trial outcome is the obvious damage control Team Amber have embarked on. It leaves a trail to be followed. The media outlets most culpable. The journalists involved and their network. The whole seedy thing with Justice Nicol, Doughty Chambers and the Murdochs (not to mention politicians like Jess Phillips that show their true colours and vacuous reasoning). Taft's bots and GeekBuzz/GeekDog. There will be a money trail from Team Amber to her stans, trolls and professional PR companies that will be revealed in VA.
And then people will start looking at the TimesUp and ACLU connections.....

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
Just adding a comment regarding some edits I had to make one page back.
We DO NOT attack other Zoners on this board, so if anyone feels like making a "how dare you" kind of post to any Zoner, please think twice about that before you post. It will be removed.
And as for why something "offensive" might be on the thread more than a few minutes...well, I have job that doesn't allow me to be here on the spot every minute of the day. If you come across a post that is offensive, please click the "Report this post" button that is on each post (looks like an exclamation point) and report it privately to me or Joni. We'll take care of it without it becoming a major point in this thread.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
Thank you, Ruby Begonia, for those absolutely to the point thoughts. Yes. “Anyone with a spine would speak out.” One would think. There are far too many who have not, or do so while hedging every other word lest they, too, find themselves having to defend speaking their own conscience. Far too much to ask of the distanced Hollywood rabble.Ruby Begonia wrote: ↑Mon Nov 30, 2020 1:28 pm
....As for the boycottfantasticbeasts and anti-Mads comments, how do you know JD isn't in favor of these as well as the anti-WB & UK court tweets/SM comments? He was libeled & defamed as a wife beater, unfairly judged, forced to pay the libelers $850K (& has equally high legal costs of his own), was fired from a multi-picture franchise, is probably fired from POTC, and media are calling for him to be blacklisted. As Grace says in her video, no actor of JD's calibre & stature has ever been fired from a film after he'd started shooting. It's outrageous. There was a campaign with petition & milions of people across SM platforms to pressure WB to bring him back (he kept the Grindelwald hair & nails for some reason). If Mads & other actors turned down the role to support their fellow actor, it's possible WB/AT&T would have caved. Mads has plenty of work & offers - he should have said "no." He doesn't have JD's emotional range and JD created this character onscreen. JD has a right to be angry and so do his fans and people outraged by the disgusting way a male victim of domestic violence is being treated. Anyone with a spine would speak out.
JD hasn't so far indicated he agrees with VM. He also hasn't asked anyone not to boycott or spoken out or had associates like Stephen speak up to have mercy on Mads. JD is the one in crisis who needs support.
And Johnny Depp - his career, his reputation, indeed, his future - is in crisis. We cannot keep referencing projects of two or more years ago to allow ourselves a deep breath and a “phew, crisis-averted-sigh”. There is literally nothing (save SAUVAGE) out there right now with Johnny’s name or visage attached that does not get pummeled in one way or another, or more frightening, just quietly removed, changed, or rewritten whether that be on store shelves, Amazon, online news media, or tabloid rags. Just yesterday, The Boston Globe had an “updated” review of Crock of Gold and when mentioning the few live interviews Shane MacGowan had allowed for the film, the newspaper chose to refer to Johnny as “his now pudgy friend, Johnny Depp”! There was an opportunity and the slight was made. No one else was disparaged.
I agree with those who say AH must be punished - she is the liar, the schemer, the cheater, the thief, the abuser, The Abuser, THE ABUSER. BUT, she could NEVER have stolen all that she has from Johnny had she not been the recipient of multitudes of tangible and intangible assistance for years. Each and every participant deserves to be hung out to dry. Their actions resulted in an innocent man being subjected to relentless defamation and humiliation the likes of which even the Hollywood cesspool had never experienced. All those players wanting - expecting - a piece of the pie from before the “wedding” through the farce of a “trial”: A corrupt Nicol Court where irrefutable evidence is somehow no longer enough and the judge himself sets precedent and makes up new rules of law as he goes along. A manuscript for fiction only. Again, one would think...
Surely there is more we can do, but for this moment, I will continue to boycott any non-Johnny Depp WB film, same for DISNEY, I watched the PUFFINS short and wrote a positive review, I have purchased THE PROFESSOR, WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS, and wrote reviews for each, (there is no English language version of CITY OF LIES), and will support MINAMATA in every way I can. I will continue to pray for Johnny, his family, and his legal team - that they are infused with wisdom, insight and good judgement, that they secure unequivocally for Johnny everything that Justice means for him and more (because he deserves so much more)... and for a miracle - until Someone up there gets sick of our badgering. All additional suggestions are sincerely welcome.
Use of highlighting, italics, bold print is my indulgence.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
@Forever_young: once again, you're barking at the wrong door. This quote comes from The Hollywood Reporter which is WB's mouthpiece and has been used recently by WB to attack Ray Fisher publicly. They've also laid it on thick on Jo recently (as have other trades). There's been absolutely a strong anti Fantastic Beasts sentiment amongst those same trades.
So slipping this little tidbit in there is only another dig. The studio makes the calls, not the writer and producer, even someone as powerful as Jo. I've said it before, but you want to be angry at someone? Be angry at Nicol, the witch and WB.
And just maybe we don't know the whole story and Johnny wasn't fired because of "bad" optics. Who knows. What I see is Johnny got to announce it himself via a letter. How many actors can even do that or have done that? Break the news themselves before any trades? The trades would have loved to be the ones scooping it. So that tells me that it was possibly a condition of Johnny's and WB agreed because somehow they still (don't beat me up) respect him.
About knowing Johnny wouldn't support the boycott? I'm stunned this even has to be asked. Because he's Johnny, he's not, from everything we know, a spiteful person. Victoria Mary's tweets are her opinions and hers alone. The fact is many Deppheads have been behaving extremely poorly lately. And anger does not excuse it all.
About Mads? Supposedly he was at the top of David Yates' list. What are they supposed to do? Remove the character from the film? They would have found somebody, because somebody needs to fill that role. And whoever it was, people would have been equally as pissed and turned their hatred towards him. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
ON another note: There's this supposed exclusive from a website called Small Screen claiming that Johnny is at the top of Tim Burton's list for the Addams Family series. Take it with a grain of salt since they're a We Got This Covered type website. I hope Tim does cast Johnny as Gomez and it is a logical expectation considering they've been looking for something to do. That would be a big big get for Johnny.
The digs about Johnny's performance in TCOG seem completely out of touch with reality. MOST people like him as Grindelwald. And you could also tell that some critics at the time were begrudgingly admitting that.
