Re: The Lawsuits Thread
Btw, I just saw Stephen Deuters comment: "You can call it a settlement. But it only means one thing. Glad to be on the right side of history." I hope that means things turned out like Johnny wanted them to.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
From an article in Fox News
"Johnny Depp is pleased to have achieved a settlement agreement with The Management Group following the legal action he took against the company in January 2017," a rep for the Hollywood actor told Fox News on Monday.
“The lawsuit taken out against The Management Group – and the subsequent settlement — is a further demonstration that Johnny is determined to take firm action to protect his personal and artistic reputation in the interests of his family and his career.
“Following the settlement, Johnny is pleased to be able to revert his full attention to his ongoing artistic endeavors, notably the second leg of the sold-out Hollywood Vampires global tour and the exciting launch of JK Rowling’s 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,' which will be released in theaters in November this year.

I feel like Johnny has been vindicated. There would have been no settlement if there was not wrong doing. I hope he got a sizable amount although I don't think he can ever receive enough to compensate for what he has been through.

I would imagine he can keep the castle and cancels any outstanding “loans” TMG held against it/him.nebraska wrote:I feel like Johnny has been vindicated. Probably another NDA attachment so that no one can speak about it, meaning all things said (against Johnny) are still fodder for the tabloids.
Hopefully a retraction from TMG will be part of the agreement, but I doubt it.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
Sounds like Johnny won enough to make it worth settling and avoid an extremely costly court trial and accompanying circus, all focused on the "eccentric" actor and not the misdeeds of the Mandel bros. TMG wouldn't have settled if it was all JD's fault, as they claimed. But Deadline, Variety and the rest keep publishing the unflattering photos of Johnng and making it sound like only Johnny settled to avoid the embarassment of his spending detailed at trial and because he's having trouble keeping lawyers and because of his deposition (we don't know what he said, but TMG wouldn't have settled if Johnny messed it up).
Apologies that this is long but, since the media rarely mentions it, here's a reminder of what TMG was accused of (from Hollywood Reporter):
"Depp filed his $25 million fraud case against The Management Company at the beginning of 2017. He alleged being the victim of gross misconduct and that the firm — run by Joel and Robert Mandell, and which had represented him for 17 years — had failed to file or pay his taxes on time, failed to keep proper books, loaned money to third parties without authorization and was self-dealing by investing his money in business ventures in which the firm's partners had ownership stakes. Depp was looking to recover commissions."
Announced part of the settlement (it's confidential so likely more to it than this): "Dismissal filings are likely to pop up in L.A. Superior Court dropping Depp’s initial action of January 2017 and the commission-seeking cross-complaint that soon followed. The November 2017 action for judicial foreclosure against several of the actor’s properties filed by TMG over a $5 million loan that they said that made to him will also be closed."

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
Yeah, I have the same idea, that TMG had to throw in the towel, because they really are guilty of most or all Johnny claims they did. Just the fact, that they attacked him in the press with personal information instead of evidence of their own innocence says a lot, I think.
As for the gossip rags speculations that Johnny wanted to avoid any embarrassing secrets coming out in court - haven't all that already been aired in media ???
But congratulations, Johnny! I am so happy that at least that ordeal is over

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
The Daily Mail kept referring to "his (ie Johnny's) trial" - er Johnny wasn't on trial.
Totally agreed - TMG pounded the PR circuit with salacious stories - I don't once remember reading an argument based in law on their behalf.
But relieved it's done - now hope the one with Bloom follows suit.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
This is very good news and I really hope it marks the end of these unhappy years in Johnny’s life. I hope the media will move on to other people and leave him alone, though I suppose this is unlikely. I do wish him well and it’s over to him now to make the most of his life and move on.

Re: The Lawsuits Thread
I am deeply proud of the support the Depp community has given Johnny over the past couple of years. He is such a good man, and I am so happy that we were able, in some small way, to help him through this hard time.

I am so glad that it is over. I can't imagine the stress he must have been under. I am sure that Johnny is relieved to get this settled.
