Mr. Sherborne's closing arguments were very impressive.

Yes they were. It's too bad that he ran out of time to present them all.

I'm 3 days behind on transcipts but have followed the Sky "live" reporting and some of the commentary. The video of Amber annoyed me to say the least. Every time she looked down at her notes she had a smirk (imo). Then that fumbled bit about UK legal resources being used - she seems to be saying it's a waste of the courts time to doubt her testimony?

I also see the statement as her beginning to rewrite the "narrative". She can actually use this as a means to double-down, claim any negative verdict and fallout as more evidence of the evil patriarchy, and her little speech seemed to support that. She may even be championed by some, though her image is looking very tarnished most places now. But the gaslighting goes on.

But nearly 30 years after the FBI dismissed Mia Farrow's claims, and despite multiple eye witness accounts and statements from a number of her own children documenting her abuses - her attacks on Woody Allen persist and seem to be gaining increased traction - and Ronan at least is getting lots of work and making a healthy income as a direct result. Three of her children have suicided and the reports of her dragging a child down the stairs by the feet and locking them in the cupboard under the stairs is abhorrent. But she is ignored and Woody is vilified. If Amber is not fully exposed, she will keep this up forever. imo.

AdeleAgain - :censored: re Whitney??!!! She was scared Amber would throw her down the stairs and she thought Amber was going to kill Johnny!!! You're correct, you couldn't make this stuff up! I should have realised when Amber said she was stopping Johnny from throwing Whitney down the stairs that the perpetrator/victim roles had been reversed. And many thanks for summaries, commentaries and analysis. I suspect we all feel your frustration.

I am pleased (from what I have seen) that Sherborne appears to be concentrating on the specifics of the Libel and pointing out Amber's lies are just a consequence of the case. Her lies, and The Sun printing them is the basis of the case. I think concentrating on the perjury aspects puts her lying under oath in focus and destroys her cred on everything she has said.

As for the book? I think there will be many - and movies. But as a friend commented to me re a movie, who do you get to play Johnny?

I also noticed when Johnny turned up on the last day, there seemed to be quite a few male voices yelling support. Claims that this is all smitten fangirls is rubbish. This is about all victims of DV.

Good point on Mia Farrow which is why I suspect he's gone to court (twice). She is never going to stop lying about this, a thousand court cases could happen and she'll keep going. She will also probably get away with perjury - but if only the credible threat of charges in the US, UK and Australia could hang over hurt it would be good.

I agree Sherborne was superb on the law side of things - also pointing out the the Sun compounded the libel with a claim JD had paid five million pounds to get away with it. Edward White has sorted that nonsense out.

Looking forward to catching up tonight on the other briefs - skeleton close and I wonder if there are annex documents supplied - people seem to have gone through NGN's attachments and surprise surprise find text etc which are helpful to JD.

IF nothing else proud of London and UK for the welcome it gave him each day. Hope he and the lawyers get a nice holiday now.

imo, until the whole dirty hoax is laid out in VA will it be put to bed. When that happens, she won't be able to make new allegations (or reiterate the old ones) without being laughed down. When that happens, I hope others she has threatened will feel they can come forward.

I see The Sun as having used this case for their own purposes (eg increased traffic). But they have also allowed Heard to (via the UK Courts no less) further her hoax. She has made numerous further allegations in her witness statements and then on the stand made unfounded allegation after unfounded allegation. That Mr Sherborne could even address the formal ones and refer to some of the informal ones was spectacular in itself. He needed at least another half day to finish imo. Sherborne has openly accused her of lying, so I suspect the Judge must now address this in his findings and/or proceed with perjury charges. I am not a lawyer.

As you noted in the first quote above, aside from the real risk of perjury charges in the UK, sworn evidence has now been submitted to a UK court that implicates her in perjury in the USA and Australia. I'm not sure about DV charges in Australia, but these could also be a concern for her.

The transcripts all refer to not having "the bundle" available. Do you know if there are there any sources available where the material has been imbedded or linked to?

Those thank you cards were a class act - and that was before I found out they were hand written!!! I thought it funny that Johnny was taking photos of the crowd, including the paps - everyone seemed happy. They're all now in his scapbook!

AH has to be afraid of perjury charges, and there's also been rumblings about Australia looking at the doggy case again.
I don't think it matters so much though that Sherborne didn't get to say all he wanted to say. I have a feeling the judge has already seen through her.
Here's to hoping *raises an imaginary glass of rum* that I am right

First of all I would like to thank all supporters and wish Johnny a good time. He should relax and be loved.
I also sincerely hope that she will be punished for her evil lies and intrigue. I pray that she and her clan will be punished in Australia and the United States. But newspapers like the sun should also be punished for not spreading further lies. People of the public need more protection.

Johnny Depp was victim of 'abuser' Heard, court told

reuters.com
Article by Alistair Smout
28th July 2020

Johnny Depp was the victim of invented allegations and physical violence from his former wife Amber Heard, London’s High Court was told on Tuesday, the final day of the Hollywood actor’s three-week libel suit against a British tabloid.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” star Depp is suing News Group Newspapers, publishers of the Sun, and one of its journalists, Dan Wootton, over a 2018 article that called him a “wife beater”.

Depp, 57, and Heard, 34, both gave evidence at the trial. Depp said he had never been violent towards Heard or any other woman and that she was the one who had attacked him.

Heard said Depp assaulted her on at least 14 occasions, including punching, head-butting and throttling her, and on Monday her lawyer said Depp was “a hopeless addict”.

In his closing speech, Depp’s lawyer David Sherborne said while Depp had been open about his use of drugs and alcohol, Heard had played down her own consumption of them as well as her anger and jealousy issues.

“She is the abuser, not Mr Depp. He is no wife beater,” Sherborne told the court.

He said Heard was a “wholly unreliable witness and, frankly, compulsive liar” who had tailored her story to meet the evidence produced against her and lied about injuries she said she had suffered.

A recording was played to the court in which Depp tells Heard she is lying when she says she did not punch him, which Sherborne said demonstrated Heard’s “propensity to violence”.

“Don’t tell me what it feels like to be punched,” Depp said in the recording, before Heard retorts: “I hit you like this. But I did not punch you.”

Sherborne said the admission that Heard hit Depp would have caused “consternation” if the roles were reversed.

In his testimony, Depp said he modelled himself as a “Southern gentleman” who would never strike a woman.

“He has never hit a woman in his entire life. Period, full stop, nada,” Sherborne said.

He said the Sun’s article was “not researched at all” and presented in a one-sided manner, effectively convicting Depp of a crime he had never committed.

Sherborne said texts from Depp highlighted by Heard’s lawyer for their violent and misogynistic language had been chosen selectively, and they should not be taken as testimony.

“The exaggerated texts ... should not be taken literally,” he said. “He may use poetic licence, he may use metaphor, but he never ever says that he hit Miss Heard.”

Depp had been candid about his drug and alcohol intake, Sherborne said, but denied they unleashed a “monster” in Depp.

Instead, Sherborne quoted messages between Heard and Depp where the “monster” referred to Depp when he was keeping away from Heard.

“Come home. Don’t be the monster, be the man,” Heard said in a text from September 2015.

“I won’t allow myself to be in such unstable, volatile and capricious conditions,” Depp said in reply. “I won’t stand there and allow you to take pot shots at my face.”

Sherborne said the allegation that Depp had an evil alter ego, as in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, was false.

“I don’t know any version of that myth which involves the monster running away from the fight,” he said.

Heard gave a statement outside the court, saying it had been painful to relive the break-up and have her truth and motives questioned. “I stand by my testimony, and I now place my faith in British justice,” she said.

A date for the ruling was not given.
And Wit, was his vain frivolous pretence
Of pleasing others, at his own expense

I would think that every person (especially celebrities) would want Johnny to win. Of course, they should want a sweet man like Johnny to be vindicated. But there is more to this suit against the Sun. They printed a story from an angry ex who could not get what she wanted out of the divorce. The Sun did not bother to verify the facts and printed the story. We can not have a situation where an angry ex can get away with making up a story and it is taken as truth without any verification. Every celebrity better think that it could also happen to them and hope that Johnny wins.

Johnny leaving court yesterday. But it's a bit of a poor quality video with a lot of pushing and showing among the paps so part of it isn't in focus, or on the target ... Maybe the poor camera man should hire bodyguards, too

I am not sure how much this was covered in your country. It sounds very much like Amber's side was the only side covered. Please don't be upset with people because they haven't heard the facts. . Are you able to open Nick Wallis web page? It is very informative. Maybe you can convince people with facts. A good place to start is to tell them that Amber had quite a few very different stories about the severed finger incident. But, the good news is the only opinion that matters right now is that of Mr. Justice Nicols.
Media were focus on Amber's side from the very begining, ignoring Johnny's version. They only write about this case, when Heard is coming out with a new allegations. Nothing, not a word from Depp. I follow Nick's Twitter account, had no idea he has a web page, I will check it out. Well, I'm trying to educate people on this subject, sending them links to infamous recordings but they ignore it because they don't like it when someone is proving them wrong.

I guess that you can't force some people to see the truth. It is sad

Nick has all the transcripts on his web page. He changed his site so it has been harder to open the documents. I have had success using Google Chrome. I hope that you can open the documents. Amber Heard changes her stories many times. It is ridiculous that anyone would believe her.
