Re: WAITING FOR THE BARBARIANS--Updates, Reviews and Discussion

Just read two reviews courtesy of Stephen Deuters. The Rolling Stone gives the film 3 stars, but the other reviewer gives Guerra and cast 4.5 stars. Coetzee waited so long to get this out to the general public, and that initial reviews are positive has to give him peace. Truly an important book and ...

Okay so now another uninformed question. I did read the transcripts last week, and I have twitter and followed Nick. But, as of Monday, I have seen NOTHING and heard NOTHING. Where are you going to read this week? I followed the links last week, but there were no links on Monday, so I figured we'd a...

I haven't seen 'the picture.' Is there a new photo that was released in court? Thanks. I assume you're talking about the picture of the faeces Amber left in the bed? Here's the pic but I'll put it in a spoiler for those that don't wish to see it. https://twitter.com/MsAuroraGilmore/status/128306782...

ONBC Tidbits - Waiting for the Barbarians

Unfortunately we read the book last summer/fall, but you are more than welcome to read through the tidbits (articles) and the questions we asked. With regard to intensity/violence, we don't know how closely the movie follows the book. It is an intense read, unforgettable. And I would highly recommen...

Yes, me too. It was last summer that I was doing Waiting for the Barbarians tidbits. Always a deep dive. This is going to be online right?

Johnny Depp Officially on IG and Facebook

Thank you for sharing the lyrics of Where's The Love. I want to believe, I live to believe that this time will be different. We are all members of the human family and each of us, up close, has the same desires and fears, the same dreams for our children. How much more we could create and build if t...

Johnny Depp Officially on IG and Facebook

I don't think they get removed, probably buried in the onslaught of folks reaching out to him. If we assume that 10% of his 4.9 million followers write him on any given day that's 590,000 new comments. Yeah.... :-O I think the trick is to post within 30 minutes of his latest post coming on line. Thi...

Spring 2020: Reading suggestions?

Glad I could offer something. I have messaged several people close to JD in hopes that the messages won't be lost in the wind. I know they are aware that fans are interested in what he reads. Perhaps he worries about personally recommending stuff? Though that don't sound like him. If I ever hear any...

4 million views! :toastingpirates: 4 million FOLLOWERS. Now, let's try to come up with a daily view count. How many visits do you personally make a day to 'check out' Johnny? I am guessing most people stop by at least twice a day (8 million views) but who knows, it could be four times a day (16 mil...

Spring 2020: Reading suggestions?

Yes, it's worth trying but given the number of people talking to him simultaneously (there are roughly 3.6 million following him), it might be challenging. Years ago I wrote Patti Smith about JD's reading preferences and got back a list, and several of the books we've read were on this list. I moved...

Spring 2020: Reading suggestions?

There is a tremendous amount of positive energy that exists around the sharing of thoughts on books, and positive thinking is something we all need right now, in abundance. It is one thing to read and enjoy a book in silence. It is another thing altogether to step forward and share one's thoughts on...

Spring 2020: Reading suggestions?

Yes, I have suggestions. Johnny, himself, owns the copyright to the Minimata book written by Eugene Smith which includes his photos. This one is currently out of most people's price range -- with an occasional used book running in the high $40+ and really good copies over $100. A nice alternative mi...
