Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter graces the cover of the March 2010 issue of Total Film. Inside, a six-page article by Mark Salisbury describes the filming and includes Q&As with the film’s Alice, Mia Wasikowska, and Johnny Depp, as well as remarks from director Tim Burton, Helena Bonham Carter, and Anne Hathaway. “I was telling Tim, I think this guy’s poisoned and that’s what makes him mad. Obviously that’s where the term came from, ‘mad as a hatter,'” Johnny tells Salisbury. “You always get images in your head of what the guy should look like [. . .], and for some reason I thought he should look like a lit match.”
