WGN entertainment reporter praises Johnny Depp's "dedication to his fans"

WGN’s entertainment reporter, Dean Richards, offered a four-minute news story on the Chicago screening of Public Enemies and its glamorous red carpet, but what made the strongest impression on the journalist was the amount of time Johnny Depp spent, not with the media promoting his work, but with the hundreds of fans who came to see him. “For over an hour, Johnny signed autographs and took pictures with fans,” Richards said. “Some of the fans waited since 4 a.m. Other cast members here tonight just waved from a distance,” Richards added.

“It’s very sweet that they’ve come out here tonight to support us like this,” Johnny told Richards. “They pay the bills . . . they’re the boss.” His graciousness made an impression on the veteran reporter, who closed his on-air segment with these words: “I’ll tell you what was the most impressive thing here tonight: Johnny Depp’s dedication to his fans. I’ve never seen a major star spend the kind of time he spent with his fans . . . for a full city block, signing autographs and taking pictures with everybody. It really was quite remarkable.” Thanks for noticing, Mr. Richards . . . that’s why there’s only one Johnny Depp!
