With the announcement that Mike Newell will be directing Jerry Bruckheimer’s film update of The Lone Ranger, speculation now turns to the title character: who will don the Ranger’s mask and spurs? James White of the UK’s Total Film joins the guessing game with a clever column in which he teasingly rules out some usual, and unusual, suspects. According to White, don’t expect to see George Clooney, Sam Worthington, Viggo Mortensen, Josh Brolin, Jon Hamm, Liam Neeson, or Cate Blanchett saddling up next to Johnny Depp’s Tonto any time soon.
