Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo win Best Art Direction Oscar for SWEENEY TODD
The husband-and-wife design team of Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo won their second Oscar Sunday night for Best Art Direction for their haunting and beautiful creation of the settings for SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET. They had previously won for Art Direction in 2005 for Martin Scorsese’s THE AVIATOR. One highlight of the evening was hearing Mr. Ferretti offer a thank-you to Johnny Depp, and seeing Johnny respond by kissing his hand to Mr. Ferretti and Ms. Lo Schiavo. In the press room, Francesca Lo Schiavo could not lavish praise enough on her director, Tim Burton: “Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic,” Lo Schiavo said, describing the experience of working with Burton on SWEENEY TODD. “He opened my mind, he’s (such) a great artist. Really, working with him, it was an award.” Congratulations to Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo! –Part-Time Poet
