Prepare to be dazzled–the trailer for Michael Mann’s gangster thriller Public Enemies has just been released, and it’s a two-and-a-half minute stunner. The trailer’s beautiful images show us a Depression-era America and introduce the bank robber/folk hero John Dillinger (Johnny Depp), his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard), and the relentless FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) whose mission, as articulated by J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup), is “to get John Dillinger.” But that won’t be easy: as Dillinger explains, “I hit any bank I want, anytime . . . they’ve got to be at every bank, all the time.” Let the chase begin!
