Television viewers who stayed with the Academy Awards broadcast to the very end were treated to brief snippets of footage from films scheduled for release later in 2009–including about ten seconds worth of clips from Michael Mann’s gangster epic Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger. This was especially fascinating since no trailer has been released for the film yet. We saw Dillinger, tommygun in hand, on the running board of a car; Dillinger and flame Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) in the stands at a racetrack; Dillinger smiling at a reclining female in a bathtub; and Dillinger in the act of robbing a bank.
